Your new heating system is more efficient so is heating the paint to a higher temperature but it s unlikely to be toxic. If the radiators are new they will have been factory prepared and sealed and do smell for a while. If they are existing radiators then reducing the temperature of the boiler a little for a few days to allow the paint to adjust to being heated up by the hotter metal may help and the smell should eventually go. Too many coats of paint on a radiator reduces the efficiency of the radiator. Removing paint from a radiator and re-applying is a long and messy job and it is sometimes more cost effective to replace an older radiator.

Use a long haired roller. It needs a stabilising solution applied first and then two coats of your chosen masonary paint. It is a long dirty and time consuming job but the result is worth the effort. Each subsequent re-painting becomes much easier to apply.

Yes a little turps substitute or white spirit. Deffinatley no special thinners or water.

Use a water based undercoat and then a water based top gloss coat and if it can be managed a light sanding between coats with something like 120 grade good luck Tony

Hiya Kevin I agree with all that has been said especially B.J.Leneham. However one thing to consider is that it does not apply to the backing on wallpapers such as vinyls where you can strip the top layer leaving what looks like a lining. This is not suitable. This definitely needed removing and the wall prepared and re lined. Lining paper correctly applied is the proper base for wall papers, in fact the more expensive wall papers require a lining and this is invariably a cross lining (horizontal) this gives a positive adhesion. In your case I assume that the lining paper has already been emulsioned. If this is the case it needs a coat of sealer. personally I use a paste like solvite with pva added. This will then seal the wall, and as others have said you can stick edges tackle bubbles etc. at this point. Good luck Tony

Hi Julie A Master Decorator would be able to deal with this. We often repair and redecorate ceilings with similar damage to yours. A plasterer will repair the hole. As to the invisibility of the repair you will probably still need it decorated for an acceptable finish. It s really up to you which way you choose. Kind regards Tony

Hi Lorraine I would use a fairly course wet and dry abrasive paper normally used for cars. Use it wet with A sponge and water and there will be no dust. Then a sealer primer like Zinsser (all available from B&Q) two oil based under oats and two coats of your chosen finishing coat ie either a satinwood or eggshell finish all oil based don t use quick drying acrylics. A light rub down with the wet and dry and a wipe with a chamois or tack rag before the final Coat.

Hi Molly It s almost certain that It is the paint you have used. I would recommend repainting with a normal good quality vinyl Matt emulsion which will seal the walls completely. Also air the room whilst re-painting. It may smell of fresh paint for a few hours but that should be it. If you use Eco paints your likely to get another completely different odour problem occur. I personally would recommend something like Dulux Matt Vinyl emulsion paint and give it two coats allowing the first to dry completely. This should cure the problem if it is paint related

Hi Sue I agree bleach would remove the black. You can dilute it in a spray bottle and wipe. The black could be due to a few things. It could be due to lack of ventilation although it's cold now a window needs to be open a little from time to time to air a room. Another reason could be a blocked or damaged area of guttering and sometimes loose Or missing pointing causes damp. I hope it just a ventilation problem for you and you cure it with the bleach
