Hi, It depends of the budget and the complexity of the job. I'd say somewhere between 20%-30% in case he has to buy some materials to start the job.

No deposit or 10% with contract in writing form .

Usually 1/3 up front, then either 1/3 at the half way point then 1/3 upon completion once you've received your certificate and building control certificate. Alarm bells should ring if the electrician does not notify building control, that's if the work undertaken falls under the scope of the part p building regulations? Alfie Hants Electrical Ltd
