Amazing service From Alen and his team. His quote beat the competition by far, but without any compromise on the windows. We were only planning to have new wooden double glazed windows for the front of the house, but were actually able to have new windows for the whole house. Alen also made suggestions which we had not thought about. He said we would have beautiful new windows and he has delivered. Clean, polite and kept informed throughout the process. FANTASTIC - called viewed job Thursday and quoted and could start work today. Met up bought the goods which was helpful so I knew I had the right materials. Came today 30 mins earlier - not a problem - and he worked like a trojan, carefully, respectfully, tidied up after himself and even did a few more small jobs on top of what he quoted for. Cleared up, reasonably priced. Lovely friendly fellow and he's coming back for other jobs I have lined up. You can't go wrong with Michali. Great carpenter.

Perfect - is all I can say. Gave me a quote as part of an insurance claim. They are really diligent; hard working and actually did more than I expected them to do. They quoted 5 to 7 days to do the work but it suited us all for them to spend a couple of hours longer than normal to get the work done in 5 days rather than come back after the weekend. I'm thrilled. I'm hoping they'll come back again if/when I have more work for them. They'd be most welcome and I'd be assured of a great job.

Shockingly bad. Given option 0f new skirting boards/existing ones. Stuart said old ones were fine, quoted to prep the walls, clear the glue off the old skirtings and do a really neat job. It was bad, he used four tubes of filler to fill gaps, no neat corking edge but smudged over the walls, corking over the floor, some skirtings fell off, I think he tried to use corking as glue. I gave him an opportunity to rectify before posting this rating, but he just made excuses. Chris

We are a small two man team including me (Gary) a carpenter by trade with 35 years experience and Jay my right hand man who is by trade a plumber with 25 years in the trade. We have a team of other trades we can call upon whenever necessary including electricians, plasterers, painters, tilers etc and can do any job that may come along. Although always being self-employed, I have been working for the same guy for the last seven years. I was originally asked to fit three kitchens on some posh flats in St Albans. This expanded to all the kitchens in the development and then on to all the 2nd fix carpentry, doors, skirting, architraves etc. In short I ended up staying seven years which only ended recently. I met Jay four years ago when he came to work on one of the jobs I was on. We liked each other immediately. We worked together for three years for the same guy (mentioned earlier) and then, a year ago decided to branch out on our own. We’d both decided that work had got a bit staid and repetitive and thought that we needed a new challenge to get the blood pumping again. I live in Leighton Buzzard and Jay in Milton Keynes so we tend to concentrate our efforts in finding work to a 25 mile radius of both these places although for the right job we can be flexible. We pride ourselves in our high standard of workmanship and professionalism and like to think that we offer real value for money.

Gary did a very good job of building a wooden structure for my pergola. His craftsmanship was very good and he was sensitive to the work that had already been done in the garden. It was, however a few inches shorter than requested. The brief was to build a 'sheltered area' but he did not return as promised to refit the canopy. He had to attend a funeral, so since this was the possible reason I would still recommend him.

Pathetic behaviour of the owner, I requested services for which i was asked to pay half of the money upfront, the guys turned up did not completed the requested job by saying its too late now we have to drive two hours to go back home? Never turned up to do rest of the work! Instead damaged my property never apologised for that neither returned to even check it. Avoid and dont pay in advance

Although Paul initially replied to the quote promptly and did the job on the same day; we were left with a hole in the wall from the fixing of the blinds. Again, Paul was initially apologetic and offered to fix the problem; however he subsequently did not turn up to the house on the day he was going to come and has for 2 weeks not responded to polite emails, text messages or picked up telephone calls. Disappointed customer.

The poor review I posted wasn't about the later repairs. It was about the inital calls and emails I made which took a week to confirm the original work date ( poor reliability) and the difference in value between actual materials used and labour (quality and value) .

Would not recommend, was inconsiderate, turned up at my home late at night twice unexpectedly. Did not paint neatly - didn’t use frog tape I provided - painted into my ceiling and skirting boards. Ruined my original fireplace by splashing paint on it. Left my home dirty with all the rubbish left behind. Did not have basic tools that a professional tradesperson would usually have - used my new hoover and left paint all over it and used it to hoover up wallpaper which made it jam.

Alton Services built a 2-storey extension for us and we were so delighted with their work they went on to refurbish our bathroom, completely refurbish my mother's new home and build a conservatory. Their range of ability, attention to detail and work ethic has been really reliable. They turned up every day all day and nothing was too much trouble. Changing this review. I would not use them again. Got them back for a 2nd job. Started 1 week late which was due to sickness - fine. Spent first 3 days working no more than a few hours a day putting plastic down. 5th day started painting. Colour matched rather than using the brand agreed to. Only did one coat of paint on all surfaces. After only a couple of months this js now chipping away at the slightest touch. No prep work on old surfaces, one coat of paint rather than 2 or 3, didn’t use brand I picked.

George responded quickly to my request, gave a very reasonable quote, did a really quite tricky and complicated job above a conservatory, to fix cracks in the pebbledash of an external wall, and seal all around the windows. A fortnight later he re-plastered internally. George gives the impression of being somewhat chaotic! But he is extremely experienced, knows what he is doing, and actually did a very good job. Although I didn't have the job done in the end (as the council had sorted the pipes whilst I applied for help) I just wanted to say that I did get a very quick reply, from Tom and he had been willing to come the very next day and give me a quote. Even though I explained it was a small job and as I'm disabled he'd have to do all the measuring up. He was still willing to come and at a time to suit me, so he deserves a few stars for helpfulness. Also for putting up with me canceling the job on the day after having second thoughts. I was not aware he'd had to pay rated people for my details. Which I think should be that they only pay if they get work! So thank you for your efforts. I obviously can't really comment on the quality of their work or their value but I give full marks for reliability for the quick call and offer to come the next morning to see the job. I will certainly be keeping their number for any work I need in the future.

I am very disappointed with the service received from SKK construction. Whilst Sean did come and give us a reasonable quote, he failed to deliver! He cancelled our first appointment 15 minutes before the set time, but rearranged another date for the following week. The second time he did not arrive and failed to respond to texts. This is an appalling service- if a trades person does not want a job, they should just say they are not interested. His failure to turn up has ruined plans for 2 weekends .
