The replacement stair bannisters, spindles and newel posts were fitted to a good standard and at a fair and competitive price. John turned up promptly, took time and equipment to inspect indoors how damp was getting in from roof and explain possible causes, then quick to get ladder to the roof to investigate further. He explained everything, took photos up on the roof with his phone, and his advice and quote seemed reasonable and not pushy. Came back in a day, did all the work up on the roof which turned out to be a lot more than he thought (reconcrete parapet wall) but honoured price, came back again to replace tiles too. Top man.

Bejay Shakespeare took £420 for a bathroom leak repair he falsely claimed was complete. That same night the leak worsened, flooding my kitchen. He repeatedly promised to return, then failed to show and ignored all calls and messages. He left the bathroom filthy, stained carpets, and made the problem worse than before. This was disgraceful, dishonest, and completely unprofessional. Avoid at all costs – I am demanding a full refund and compensation for the damage he caused.

I have been trading as MJ Griifiths for nearly 30 years now . My father was a gas engineer and I initially trained with him and got my City & Guilds qualifications. I branched into building a few years later in a partnership with a school friend who was a carpenter. Together we estabalished a Building , plumbing and heating company covering all aspects of the trade. The partnership no longer exists but M J Griffiths does ! Its fair to say that I am a very experienced all rounder who specalises in Heating and plumbing, all gas work and servicing , bathroom installations etc . We mainly only carry out associated building works now a days to go along with say a bathroom installation where we would do studwork, boarding , skimming , carpentry, tiling etc. My company does not have to use other trades for things like this enabling us to keep costs down with no delays waiting for other trades. My son James has qualified as a gas engineer 6 years ago and has worked with me for 10 years. Now we have on board my youngest son Max as an apprentice , studying at Trowbridge college on day release. We install Worcester boilers if possible and are due to be Worcester acredited this autumn . We also install other makes of boilers if the budget requires. We also specalize in design , supply and installation of bathrooms. We take the strain , not our customers !

Attended promptly but did not conplete all the work I asked for. Just changed a fuse and replaced a light switch. When I asked him to return to complete the work he was very reluctant to do so.

Mark’s/assistant’s work was good. Some skirting had staple holes. He was informative and professional while quoting. Our requirement for replacing coving got ignored. Comms were sketchy, phone notifications were turned off often and we waited days for a reply. The job was posted as urgent and from first contact to completion took over three weeks, this was frustrating. We accept that he and his partner were unwell within this time frame for approx three days.

George responded quickly to my request, gave a very reasonable quote, did a really quite tricky and complicated job above a conservatory, to fix cracks in the pebbledash of an external wall, and seal all around the windows. A fortnight later he re-plastered internally. George gives the impression of being somewhat chaotic! But he is extremely experienced, knows what he is doing, and actually did a very good job. My first two builds were complete builds from the ground up, so I had to seek out and get trades on-site to complete work I didn’t have the skills for. Over time I have carried out all sorts of work over the past few years from Setting out a site, Groundworks, Blockwork, Construction, Timber work/studding, Plaster boarding, Fitting kitchens and Bathroom, as well as Wooden Flooring and Tiling, and of course decorating. I leave plumbing, electrical work and plastering to the trades ( and have good contacts ) – but I have a good eye for detail but enjoy fitting kitchens, bathrooms, doors, skirting, and painting.

Sheridan was hired in Apr - initial communication and detailed quotes gave confidence however, once he started the job it became clear that his work was average at best and more honestly that of a weekend DIY’er. The job ran well over and he has yet to actually finish it (about to start claim against him for costs to finish job). His quotes where he contracts out to the trade aren’t accurate and he doesn’t check the cost with them so some very expensive surprises. Avoid at all cost.

I didn't have the work done. They came across as unprofessional and pushy. I can't coment on the quality of the work but I can coment on the quote process. Just verbal price. When I pushed for an email quote I just got the price again and little else. Nothing about what they were going to do as part of the job. I expect better. The last few tradesmen I have had on Rated have been excellent full written quotes and professional from the start. These guys even had to ask if they could borrow a tape measure!
