Which boiler

Posted by David Thompson, on
I'm renovating my house (3 bed/2 bath) and will be installing a full new plumbing/heating system. The house is supplied with natural gas. Downstairs will have piped underfloor heating (using around 7kW output) and upstairs will have 5 medium sized radiators. The water flow rate at the mains is really high (47L/min). My wife has requested that the shower be really powerful. I will install a shower head which allows a high flow rate, and run the DHW pipes in 22mm, but could you advise me on the best boiler for the job of providing a large flow of hot water. There is currently only 2 of us living at the property and we don't want to install a how water cylinder. We just want a combi which will provide a fully 'drenching' shower. I normally install vaillant or worcesters so would prefer one of those. I was thinking about the Vaillant 938 which can provide 20L/min, but once the stored hot water is used this will drop, and this won't take long if I have a powerful shower. Can you advise?

Hi David I'd go with the Worcester 550cdi, 25 ltrs per minute, floor standing but great piece of kit

Hi David . Interesting post ! . Having many years of experience in this field and your conundrum in particular! Combi boilers for sure are improving all the time. I have always been a fan of pressurised cylinders and heat only boilers as I can think of more pros than cons of combi boilers . Is the underfloor heating wet or electric? Be careful with the deluge shower head running a combi as it could potentially lead to disappointment. I strongly suggest you a "whole house consultation " with a professional before going ahead . Kind regards. Adrian from A.T.Plumbing and Heating company
