Electrician Certification

Posted by Michael ST VINCENT, on
I am having my property rewired, what certification should my electrician have, I have received a quote but there is no reference on the quote of any certification on it or accreditation to any professional body.

First and foremost your electrician should be registered with a trade association such NICEIC or NAPIT (there are others), they should give you their registration details that you can then check. If they do not have the appropriate qualifications they will not have accreditation. However having said this there are still different levels of skill and qualification but basically split in to two groups, domestic installers and fully qualified engineers, if you want the fully qualified look for level 3 qualifications both in installation, verification, testing and regulation. Hope this helps Jason

All electrical works should receive certification. A full rewire of premises will require a new installation certificate.

Just ask the electrician and then check if he's registered or not before getting them to do the job They need to be registered as the job requires notification to building control under Part P This will ensure the job is done to current correct standards
